A sand shark rode alongside an SUV
down Santa Monica Blvd.
past Toys R Us towards the 10 freeway.
A school of porpoise did a double take
slid though the slime,
past pampers, plastic water bottles, and
abandoned condoms
In the smoggy orange glow of the setting sun.
Raw sewage streamed through the streets
out of the Santa Monica bay.
Painted the concrete like Picasso with its perfume.
I rolled up my blue jeans
danced under the pulsating florescent glow
as brown sludge oozed between my toes
bacteria crawled up my thighs,
blue green algae soaked waves
curled on to the sand
as the apocalypse crawled ashore.
