About Us

Gentle Moos From Round the Globe

We want creative content mostly from not-yet-famous writers, poets, artists, cartoonists, and comedians. If a person happens to get famous, they can be forgiven for that.

Moocat.net is an independent online literary magazine. Its editorial board reviews submissions based on the following criteria:

For Essays

By “essays” here, we really mean “personal essays.” We don’t publish op-eds here, or any other kind of essay. The point-of-view we are looking for is the innocent, wide-eyed individual encountering the word — in all its ugliness or beauty — and honestly reacting to it. We do not publish mean-spiritedness; the moocat is a gentle cat. We are happy to consider writing about the author’s personal reaction to news events, but we are not a news site and do not publish news per se.

For Poetry

We will consider reprints, with author’s permission. See Poetry Submission Guidelines for more detail.

For Travelogs

Looking for a similar perspective as essays, but based on being in or living in a place other than one’s own home. Travelogs can be set in any locale in the solar system other than one’s own home; that is, you have to have travelled to get there.

For Comedy

We are especially interested in Radio Comedy (or, audio-only work) but will definitely consider satire, character-driven comic essays, CARTOONS!, or even short videos. Heck, send us a video of your stand-up act, if it’s not crazy long! Only qualification here is that we have to find it funny. Advanced mathematical formulae are used to determine funniness quotient.

For Art

Photography, illustration, (photos of) sculpture, even art criticism or articles about art are all fair game. Comic art may appear in either this section or in Comedy. We can’t be expected to figure out complex questions like that!

Copyright

Authors retain copyright of their own work. By submitting your work to us, you are giving us permission to publish your work here and keep it on the site for as long as she mews.

Legalistic Blahbbety-Blahbbety Blah

Upon acceptance of your work, moocat.net acquires First World Electronic Rights for a period of three months following publication. Afterwards, all rights revert to the author. Moocat.net retains the non-exclusive right to maintain the work in its digital archives indefinitely. We also reserve the right to use the author’s name and work snippets for promotional purposes on the moocat.net website and affiliated social media.

Offices

As of this date, the moocat.net complex exists only in a rare offshoot of Freudian psychology that no one yet has explored. But, hey, who knows?
