Taiwan Food Vendors


John Freeman’s black and white photo essay of Taiwan graced the Autumn issue. He has now come back in living color. John Freeman has taught digital photography at the university level in his home country of South Africa. He is currently living and working in Taiwan.

One of the most memorable scenes in Taiwanese life are the ever-present street food vendors and “wet markets,” so unique in their mixture of sights, smells, and textures. In these photos, John Freeman seeks to capture a sense of what it means to go grocering in the traditional Taiwanese way.
