A Few Minutes in the Tallest Building in the World |
Nov. 22, 2003, |
|||
As of this writing, Taipei 101 is the tallest building in the world (by most descriptions). Before the actual "tall" part was open, a friend and I went to see the "mall" part, which is connected to the first five floors of the larger building. We took the opportunity to also test each other's knowledge of American and Taiwanese famous people. Note: Chinese is a tonal language. The word for "tall" (gao, first tone) to the English ear sounds very similar to the word for "dog" (gao, third tone). Back in 2003, I hadn't quite mastered that yet. Internet connection not fast enough for this one? You can also view it: David Saia David Saia edits moocat.net. His work has been published and produced in several venues, including The Daily Reveille, The Culture Report, New Delta Review, and San Francisco Review. As of this writing, he is still living and working in Taiwan.
